Skincare experts agree that it's a really good idea to get into the habit of applying a facemask once a week. Nowadays there are a whole host of different masks available, so whatever your skin type or problem, you're certain to find one that's just right for you.
Some masks are gels that peel off in one go. These are fun to use but tend to be best suited to younger skin that requires less moisturising. Those of you with dry skin should opt for rich creamy masks that allow the skin to take in as much moisture as it needs. Whilst mud and clay based masks are rich in skin boosting vitamins and minerals and have particularly good properties for drawing impurities and oil out of the skin, making them best suited to oily and problem skin.
Before applying a mask start by pulling your hair back from your face and thoroughly cleansing your skin. A good tip is to apply a little eye cream first to protect the delicate skin around your eyes and then using gentle strokes apply the mask, still avoiding the eye area and taking care not to drag the skin. Next, simply relax and let the mask do its work for as long as the instructions suggest before removing it. Some masks, usually the moisturising kind, can simply be removed by wiping off any excess with a tissue but most require rinsing. Always rinse with warm rather than hot water and try a final rinse in cool water for added radiance.
